Opportunities

Shadowing opportunities: We bring speakers to our meetings. They tell us their experiences as students and what they did to get into their respective medical school. After the meeting is over, the physician stays for a while in case students have any questions, and there is where most of the students ask for shadowing opportunities.

Leadership opportunities: All of the professional schools like to see leadership positions, they do not like it very much when you tell them that you were a member in an organization and you were not involved.

Ways to get involved with PPMS:

Officer: They are elected at the end of the Spring semester - most of the officers were directors or a top member. The positions are President, Vice-president, Professional School Information Officer, Secretary, Treasurer, and Sergeant at Arms.

Directors:  Are chosen by an interview with the officers. They are elected by the second PPMS meeting
(Sept 20th).

Some of the directors positions are:

·        1 Meeting Facilitator: This person would help to make sure
that the meetings run smoothly. They would be in charge of handing out agendas and newsletters or finding other members to help hand out this information. They would make sure there were always enough chairs, the Student Union Sign is in front of the room, members can see the powerpoint, can hear the announcements, etc. They would also be responsible for finding other members to act as meeting greeters to welcome others to the meeting.

·        1 KORT/OSI relations: PPMS must fulfill certain requirements that KORT and OSI set to maintain registered student organization status. This director would make sure that PPMS is completing 10 cubicle hours, attending its’ cubicle meetings (one per month) and attending KORT meetings (one per month). This director is not solely responsonsible for attending all of these meetings, but would need to make sure there was a member present at every meeting.

·        1 Non-traditional Member Liasison: This director would serve as an intermediary between the organization and members who cannot attend the meetings. This director would keep a mailing list of members who have class/ work during meetings and would email the agenda and newsletter to these members. They would also be in charge of finding out which
events the non-traditional members want to attend and would sign them up for these events.
