The Pre-Professional Medical Society Directive

President: Lilibeth Lanza

School Year: 5th

Major: Molecular Biology and Microbiology, Nursing

How long have you been in PPMS? 3 years

Career goals: I plan to be a plastic surgeon. When I finish medical school, I plan to work at a hospital for a few years and then go around the world and stay where I can help more people. I just know that my passion will have no borders.

Why I love PPMS? I came from another country, so I had a different concept of applying to medical school. I was also a transfer student and was not involved in anything related to medicine. When I arrived to the University of Central Florida, PPMS opened a lot of doors for me, I started to volunteer at a hospital, Give Kids the World, Feed the Homeless, and much more.

What would you like to see in PPMS this year? I want members to gain a lot of knowledge and experience in the professional field that they wish to go in by coming to our meetings and events; I hope  the members find that PPMS is “Quality over Quantity”.

Hobbies: Read horror or mystery books, volunteering, going to the movies, nightclubbing, and playing any kind of sport.

Major: Biology, Chemistry Minor

How long have you been in PPMS? 2 years

Career goals: Five years from now, I hope to be graduating from dental school as a general dentist while applying for my two year residency in pediatric dentistry.  I have a passion for missions and intend on primarily becoming part of an organization which coordinates dental mission trips to foreign countries around the world.  As a pediatric dentist, I plan on assisting a team of oral surgeons in the operation of babies suffering from cleft pallets, while individually specializing in several other procedures.  I also one day plan on opening my own dental office where I can additionally begin a program where I am able to provide underprivileged families with free dental care once a year, while also contributing to various community and school programs. Last but not least, I hope to maintain my bond with PPMS as a mentor to future pre-professional students.

Why I love PPMS? I love PPMS for its diversity and uniqueness in providing students with the opportunity of gaining knowledge in an assortment of pre-professional careers.  I enjoy being part of an organization that offers professional school trips, tutoring, mentoring, social activities, professional speakers, food, and fun volunteer events (especially the Special Olympics!).  I love the friendly atmosphere and the friendships gained among this supportive network of pre-professional peers.

What would you like to see in PPMS this year? I hope to see more active members at our events, an increased number of professional school trips, and a greater sense of unity among our members.

Hobbies: I enjoy cross-country running, volleyball, painting/ceramics, watching movies (comedy and LMN) and TV shows (House, Dr. G., King of Queens, Project Runway...), listening to music (mostly R&B), cooking, shopping, and sleeping.

PSergeant of Arms: Stephani Plati

School Year: 4th year

Major: Molecular Biology and Microbiology

How long have you been in PPMS? 1 year

Career goals: Go into Pediatrics

Why I love PPMS? Ever since I became a PPMS member, I felt like I finally found a group of people who I could surround myself with, that were all looking for the same thing I was and who were all going through the same things I am. The events that PPMS provides aren't only part of an organization, they are part of a growing process, learning experiences and meaningful memories that I will take with me
forever. The friends I've made and the knowledge I've gained simply from being part of PPMS is enough to keep me hooked! I always believe that if you surround yourself with high acheivers and hard workers you can't fall short of success. The support group I've found, the comfortable atmosphere, and the fun I have makes PPMS worth every minute I put in because I get so much more out of it. I love PPMS!

What would you like to see in PPMS this year? I would love to continue the success that PPMS achieves every semester. I would like to try and motivate everyone in the organization to follow through their plans on doing something, starting with signing up for events and actually going to them because that is something everyone can carry with them throughout life. I would also like to see PPMS add a fourth award to display in the cubicle. Lastly, to see others making ties with PPMS members not only because they are in the organization but because they have found some genuine friends to carry with them through the hectic process that is college life.

Hobbies: Playing the piano, spending time with family and friends, volunteering, listening to music, catching good movies, dancing, eating delicious food!
